Farm Operations

Manage equipment, plan crop rotations, map fields with GPS, track finances, schedule labor, and access precision agriculture tools.

🔧Equipment Management

  1. Navigate to the Farm tab and tap "Equipment."
  2. Tap "+ Add Equipment" to register a machine.
Enter: type (tractor, combine, sprayer, etc.), make/model, year, serial number, purchase date, purchase price, and a photo.
  3. Set up preventive maintenance schedules.
Configure oil changes, filter replacements, tire checks, belt inspections, and custom tasks. Verdix sends reminders based on hours of use or calendar intervals.
  4. Log repairs with parts used, cost, technician, and downtime hours.
  5. Track fuel consumption for each machine to identify efficiency trends.
  • Full fleet inventory with specs and current book value
  • Preventive maintenance scheduling with hour/calendar-based alerts
  • Repair history with parts, cost, and downtime tracking
  • Fuel consumption trending and efficiency analysis
  • Automatic depreciation calculation for tax planning
  • Equipment sharing and cooperative booking
  • Critical spare parts inventory with reorder alerts
💡
Tracking fuel consumption per hour or per acre reveals equipment that's running inefficiently. A 5-15% improvement in fuel efficiency is common when operators get visibility into consumption data.

🔄Crop Rotation Planning

  1. In the Farm tab, tap "Crop Rotation."
  2. Select a field and view its crop history.
  3. Plan future rotations using the multi-year planner.
Verdix suggests rotations based on crop families, soil nutrient needs, and pest cycles. For example, avoid planting nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, potatoes) in the same field two years in a row.
  4. Set rotation rules for your operation.
Define minimum years between same-family crops, cover crop requirements, and required fallow periods. Verdix enforces these rules and warns about violations.
  5. View the field-level rotation map to see your entire operation's plan at a glance.
💡
A good rotation plan prevents soil depletion, breaks pest cycles, and reduces disease pressure. The classic 4-year rotation is: root crops, legumes, brassicas, then nightshades/cucurbits.

📍Field Mapping

  1. In the Farm tab, tap "Fields" and then "+ Add Field."
  2. Walk the field boundary with your phone to trace it via GPS.
Verdix uses your device's GPS to trace the field perimeter. For higher accuracy, use an external Bluetooth GPS receiver (RTK-capable for 2-3 cm precision).
  3. Review the boundary and edit points as needed. Verdix auto-calculates acreage.
  4. Add zone overlays for variable-rate management.
Divide fields into management zones based on soil type, drainage, elevation, or yield history. These zones drive variable-rate seeding and fertilizer application maps.
💡
Field mapping is the foundation of precision agriculture. Accurate boundaries ensure correct acreage for crop insurance, input calculations, and yield analysis.

💰Financial Dashboard

  1. In the Farm tab, tap "Financials."
  2. View the profit/loss summary by crop, field, and time period.
  3. Log input costs: seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, fuel, labor, equipment, and custom categories.
Costs can be assigned per field, per acre, or per crop. Verdix calculates cost per bushel/pound automatically.
  4. Track revenue from sales, including market price per unit and total income.
  5. Review cash flow projections and seasonal financing needs.
  • Profit/loss by crop, field, and season
  • Input cost tracking with per-acre and per-bushel breakdowns
  • Cash flow forecasting with seasonal projections
  • Market price tracking and forward contract management
  • Subsidy and grant tracking with application deadlines
  • Tax preparation exports: P&L by crop, depreciation schedules
  • Invoice and payment tracking for vendors and buyers
💡
Consistent cost tracking is the difference between knowing which crops are profitable and guessing. Log every input as it happens — the data compounds in value over seasons.

👷Labor Management

  1. In the Farm tab, tap "Labor."
  2. Add team members with their roles, skills, certifications, and availability.
  3. Create work schedules and assign tasks by field, crop, or activity.
Workers receive mobile notifications with task details, location, and special instructions.
  4. Workers clock in/out from their phones with geolocation verification.
  5. Review timesheets, task completion rates, and labor cost reports.
💡
Historical labor data helps predict seasonal hiring needs. After one full season, Verdix can forecast labor requirements based on your crop plan and historical hours per activity.
⚠️
Labor compliance varies by state. Verdix includes H-2A tracking, youth labor restrictions, and state-specific break requirements, but always verify with your local labor regulations.
