📚How the Breeding Module is Organized

AniLedger's breeding system is built on a universal base (32 SQL tables) plus species-specific modules. The base covers any mammal/bird/reptile breeding lifecycle. The species modules add the deep clinical knowledge — equine ultrasound schedules, bovine sync protocols, cat NI matrix, reptile TSD curves, etc. Most users only see the universal base and the modules for their species.

✅Pre-Breeding Clearance Hub

  1. From any animal profile, tap "Pre-Breeding Clearance".
  2. AniLedger pre-fills the recommended clearance list based on species cluster — canines see OFA + CAER + brucellosis; equines see Coggins + CEM + EVA; bovines see BVD-PI + Johne's + trich; etc.
  3. Tap each clearance to add result, lab, date, and expiration.
  4. Upload the lab report PDF.
One dashboard for every clearance and test required before breeding: OFA hip/elbow/cardiac/eye/thyroid, CHIC, CAER, BAER, PennHIP, Coggins/EIA, brucellosis, CEM, BVD-PI, Johne's, strangles, vibriosis, trich, FeLV/FIV, OPP, CAE, plus genetic test panels from Embark, UC Davis VGL, Animal Genetics, and Etalon.

For canine breeding, the brucellosis test must be current (within 30 days for most ethical breeding contracts). The app shows a red banner if brucellosis is expired or missing.

🌡️Heat / Estrus Cycle Tracking

  1. From the animal profile, tap the Heat/Estrus tile.
  2. Tap + to start a new cycle. Enter day-1 (proestrus start) date.
  3. Log daily observations: vulvar swelling, discharge color, behavior, cytology if you do it yourself.
  4. The app calculates composite estrus score and predicts next cycle.
Cycle terminology adapts to species: "Heat Cycles" for canine, feline, bovine; "Estrus Cycles" for equine; "Receptive Period Cycles" for rabbit and camelid; "Lay Cycle" for poultry.

For canines, pair this with the Progesterone Curve module to nail down ovulation timing within ±24 hours.

📈Progesterone Curve (Canine, Feline)

  1. From the canine female's profile during a heat cycle, tap "Progesterone Curve".
  2. Tap + to add a P4 test. Enter date, value (ng/mL), and lab.
  3. AniLedger auto-classifies the phase: pre-LH-surge, LH-surge, ovulation, post-ovulation, diestrus.
  4. The app predicts your optimal breeding window: ovulation date + 2-4 days.
P4 (progesterone) testing is the gold standard for canine ovulation timing. AniLedger plots the curve and auto-classifies each test by phase using the 1→5→8→30 ng/mL decision tree.

Add LH tests too (qualitative or quantitative) — the curve combines both for a complete ovulation picture.

👶Whelping / Foaling / Calving / Etc. Mode

  1. From the dam's profile, tap the Birthing Mode tile (label changes by species).
  2. Tap "Start Stage I" when contractions begin. Stage timer runs.
  3. Tap "+ NEONATE BORN" (label adapts: "+ PUPPY BORN", "+ FOAL BORN", etc.) for each newborn.
  4. Quick-add per neonate: sex, weight, presentation, status, color, collar/band ID, notes.
  5. Log interventions: oxytocin, calcium, vet call, c-section, etc.
  6. Tap "COMPLETE" when finished — automatically creates a litter record with all neonates linked.
A full-screen, offline-first parturition tracker designed for 3 AM in a basement, barn, or whelping room. Dark theme, large buttons, species-specific terminology throughout.
  • Dog: Whelping Mode — puppies, litter, whelping box

🐎Equine Breeding (Deep Module)

For equine females, AniLedger adds 6 specialized screens covering the unique challenges of horse breeding:
  • Mare Dashboard — pregnancy stage with day count, days-to-foaling, active cycle, last breeding event, Coggins/EIA gate banner, next predicted ultrasound, next critical vaccination
  • Ultrasound Schedule — auto-predicts 8 protocol checkpoints from breeding date: Day 14 (first scan + twin window), Day 16 (twin recheck), Day 25 (heartbeat), Day 45-60 (endometrial cup), Day 60-70 (fetal sexing), Day 90-120 (late embryonic loss), Day 150 (fetal monitoring), Day 270+ (CTUP placentitis)
  • Twin Reduction — Day 14-16 critical decision tree, 4-window matrix with success rates, 6 reduction methods, automatic update of fetal count on success

These tiles only appear on equine animal profiles (horses, donkeys, mules, ponies, miniature horses). They're hidden for other species so the UI stays clean.

🐄Bovine + Small Ruminant Breeding (Deep Module)

For cattle, goats, and sheep, AniLedger adds 4 livestock-specific screens:
  • Sync Protocols — 13 pre-built templates with day-by-day event scheduling. Bovine: Ovsynch, Presynch-Ovsynch, Double Ovsynch, 7-Day CO-Synch + CIDR, 5-Day CIDR, MGA-PGF (heifers), Resynch (open cows). Caprine: CIDR + PGF + eCG, Buck Effect, Melatonin Implant. 🐱Other Species Breeding Modules

Cat, poultry, reptile, ferret, camelid each get a dedicated screen:
  • Cat NI Matrix — Feline Neonatal Isoerythrolysis blood-type calculator. Auto-detects queen blood type from genetic tests. Two-axis selector (queen × sire blood type). High-risk breed banner for 17 type-B-prevalent breeds. Critical pairings show full NI prevention protocol (hand-rear 24h, foster onto Type A queen, blood-type each kitten)
  • Poultry Incubation — 11-species reference (chicken 21d, duck 28d, Muscovy 35d, turkey 28d, goose 28-35d, quail Coturnix 17d, quail Bobwhite 23d, guinea 28d, pheasant 25d, ostrich 42d, emu 50d). Each entry shows duration, temp, humidity, lockdown day, turns/day. Active clutch tracker auto-computes hatch date
  • Reptile TSD — Temperature-dependent sex determination for 8 species (Leopard Gecko, Bearded Dragon, Ball Python, Russian Tortoise, Sulcata, Red-Eared Slider, Crested Gecko, Corn Snake). Auto-classifies expected sex from incubation temp. Critical egg-orientation warning (eggs MUST be top-up, opposite of bird eggs)
  • Ferret Hyperestrogenism — Jill estrus tracker with mandatory-breed alert. 4-tier color-coded threshold: Day 0-13 SAFE (green), 14-20 YELLOW, 21-27 RED (urgent), 28+ CRITICAL (likely aplastic anemia). 5 intervention options
  • Camelid Spit-Off — Receptivity test logger for induced ovulators (alpacas, llamas). Three-state reaction picker (RECEPTIVE-CUSHED / NON-RECEPTIVE-SPIT / MIXED). Spit-off at 14-16 days post-breed = strong pregnancy indicator

❄️Frozen Semen Inventory

  1. From Settings, tap "Frozen Semen Inventory".
  2. Add a tank with serial number and location.
  3. Add canisters, canes, and goblets to the hierarchy.
  4. Add a semen lot: sire name, collection date, total straws, motility/morphology if known.
  5. For each withdrawal: pick lot, enter quantity, pick purpose (breeding, shipping_out, destroyed_quality, sample_test, transfer_ownership), enter destination if shipping.
Tank → canister → cane → goblet hierarchy with full chain-of-custody tracking. Atomic withdrawal counts prevent race conditions when multiple users update simultaneously.

Tank maintenance log tracks LN2 fills with next-fill-due reminders. Don't lose a tank of straws to LN2 evaporation.

📋Stud Service Contracts

  1. From the sire's profile, tap "Stud Service Contracts".
  2. Tap + and pick the receiving dam (you can also enter a dam from outside your account).
  3. Fill in: stud fee, payment terms, live offspring guarantee, re-breed terms, puppy-back provisions, special conditions.
  4. Generate PDF and send to the other breeder for signature.
Generate full breeder-to-breeder stud service contracts directly from the app, prefilled with your stallion/stud info, fees, live offspring guarantees, re-breed terms, and puppy-back provisions.
